Philip Yancy (1990): Where is God when it hurts |
The book has 3 main
sections addressing particular aspects of the problem of pain: the role of
pain in life, God’s view, and how can we respond. The messages: (a) Pain is
beneficial—it serves as a warning system. Without pain, we would also suffer
and (b) Suffering is not part of God’s original design and He is not pleased
by it. |
Does God order suffering?
Or did he simply allow human mess up the world and now is watching from a
distance? |
God who is neither
unpredictable nor unconcerned. Using examples from the Bible and from his own
experiences, the author looks at pain—physical, emotional, and spiritual—and
helps us understand why we suffer. |

Philip Yancey (1995): The Jesus I never knew |
To know Jesus from
different perspective. It starts from the birth of Jesus till His ascension. |
Is Jesus son of God or son
of man? |
Jesus is both son of God
and son of man. He is not just a human being but God with us. How could God:
be born by a virgin, survive in the desert, have no place to lay His head, be
crucified by His created man? From this perspective, we have to say He is an
awesome God. |

John Sloan (2002): The Barnabas
Way - an unexpected path to God |
Followers of God feel as though we are missing out on His blessings. The
Barnabas Way tells us that God’s personal, intimate presence with us can be
experienced each day only if we learn how to reach out to others. |
Who is Barnabas and what is “his way”? |
Barnabas means “son of encouragement”. He made his name in the life
of the first-century church by believing in and encouraging a persecutor of
Christians named Saul (Paul). The Barnabas way is an approach to life that
involves identifying people who are in need, reaching out to them and helping
them live a fuller life. This way not only brings us closer to God (helps us
grow spiritually and experience God’s blessings), but it also brings rewards
in our life on earth by helping us achieve the highest level of fulfillment
in life (the ultimate basic human desire). |

Michael A. Zigarelli (2001):
Management by Proverbs

Philip Yancey (1997): What’s So Amazing About Grace? |
The world runs by ungrace. Everything
depends on what we do. Jesus’ kingdom calls us to another way, one that
depends not on our performance but his own. For the gospel of grace begins
and ends with forgiveness, Christians can and must reveal the grace the world
is searching for. |
What is grace? |
Grace is a gift undeserved
that comes at unexpected moments from outside; grace costs nothing for the
recipients but everything for the giver. There is nothing we can do to make
God love us more; there is nothing we can do to make God love us less. |
