"Got a message for Melody? Express delivery!""Your Friendly E-Snail Service (FESS)."
Here are some of my friends. You know you've met too many people
when you can walk around and find that you can greet on the average one
person per five seconds between classes. It also makes you feel old...
like me.
Clockwise from bottom left:
Michelle Jackson-Brown, Louise Chan, Lauren Mackay, Chris
Chow, Julie Barkley, me
Louise
Chan (Louisey) "Let's
go to Louiseyland!"
We've known each other since
before we could remember. I meant that... literally before the age
of 3. We went to the same church, played with our stuffed animals
together (btw, she has over a hundred), picked strawberries together, and
even ended up in the same high school. She's currently studying at
Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Her favourite character
is Tigger. One good thing about going to the same high school was
that she already made all my friends for me... hehehe...
Lauren Mackay (Mouselet)
My fellow physics-lover and
bio-hater, we were in quite a number of the same classes. She eats
(or used to eat) crackers and cheese every single day (which would make
her a mouse) and vibrates every which way when she laughs. She studied
at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and is now working in Ottawa.
Her favourite character is Winnie the Pooh. Absolutely anything Winnie
the Pooh... from cakes to clothes. She's also an egg and likes to
play Mah-Jongg.
Chris Chow (Spike)
One of the most creative people
I know, Chris can be REALLY sarcastic to the point where you don't know
if he's being sarcastic or not. (Note: it is especially hard to tell
through icq.) He's well-known for his spikey hair and has a cartoon
character called Spike. He's studying industrial design at Carleton
University in Ottawa, Ontario. One day, he's going to design a gigantic
house worth millions.
Julie Barkley (Kitty)
Yes, the famous "Julie Curse"
originated from this friend of mine. Whenever she is around, something
gets spilled. Like the rest of us, Julie has her own little quirks...
such as which direction the pens and pencils should go into her pencil
case. She has an excessive love of cats, hates physics and loves
bio. In our last year of high school, Chris, Julie, and I spent spares
galore playing one of our favourite card games, Mao. She studied
at Glendon College in Toronto, Ontario. Now she's married and in
London. By the way, her name is really Bulie Jarkley although she
doesn't want to admit it.
Left to right: me, Leo, Yvonne
Leo
Kan "All
you want to know about an Alfa Romeo! Yeah, it's all about horsepower!"
Talk
to him about cars because he knows anything and everything about them especially
the Alfa Romeo. He's got a white Alfa Romeo (164S) called Trinity
and a black Alfa Romeo (Q4) and (a recent addition) another Alfa Romeo
(Milano) called Incognito. Admittedly a *gentleman*, he is but a
good actor. ;) Some semesters (when we're not so busy with Cornell
academics) we play chamber ensemble. We play violin and piano sonatas
and other fun stuff.
Yvonne
Lau "Ooh!
Webpage! It looks so beautiful over there! C'mon!"
The first thing she said to me was "Where's the
Math 193 section meeting?" It turned out we were both in the same
section so we became good friends. I don't know whose fault it is
but whenever we're together, you're bound to hear us before you see us
because non-stop laughing is what we do best. On top of that, Leo
has claimed that we laugh at the same frequency.
Molly Finn
Molly
Finn (Wisk'acha) "Run
to Wisk'acha! Aww yeah!"
Molly would kill me if I told you her middle name.
She would kill me again if I told you her birthday. So... too bad
for you, you'll never know her middle name or find out when her birthday
is. She has compulsive e-mailing disorder and has once sent me 115
e-mails on our record setting day. (Not to mention about the same number
from me to her.) She lives (will she kill me if I tell you all where
she lives?) at Wait Terrace... for the moment... until she graduates and
moves off to Ecuador *boo hoo she's leavin' me*. And wouldya all
know that I actually have three homes on the Cornell campus? The
Gorge House, the Clock Tower, and the all-famous Molly's Room? I've
worked at all three places, checked my e-mail at all three places, ate
at all three places, played violin at all three places, even slept at all
three places. One of my favourite activities is hunting for Wisk'acha.
That is, I run around campus and sneak up behind her and pounce!
Too bad I can't add this as a part of my list of activities on resumes.
What would my employers think!?
Janet Ma (Timmy)
Now here's someone who is really like me in a lot
of ways. Whenever we are together, random things happen. It
must be some kind of chemistry going on there! It's all entropy.
She's in HKCF and once came to CCF (to hear about dating, except that it
was Yvonne's idea). Since I've known her, I've discovered how randomness
always works best for things such as setting up a lunch date. Somehow,
we both become extra insane and hyper when we're together. We've
invented our own little snack called Petit Pitats (Pretzel Inventions
by Timmy And Tommy) and have our own countries MomTom
and JimTim where we speak Blahrian ("blah blah blah!") or Mittish (which
is basically a computer typo language). Laughter is in abundance
here.
Emily Bracewell
Emily Bracewell... she'd watch Pride and Prejudice
with me any day. Not afraid to speak up about anything and having
a most witty tongue, next to her I'd feel quite safe from being asked to
speak. We like to play Balderdash (along with the rest of our families)
and make up the silliest definitions to the silliest words.
Stephen Hung (Hugger Bugger)
Yes, he's got the same last
name as me and it just so happens that he's my brother. He's now
13 years old but we've been through a lot together (including little cat-fights
over "who gets the chair"... of course, we were quite some years younger
then). But being 8 years older than him, it does make a difference.
It took some getting used to... not being the only child anymore, but we
don't fight anymore (or rarely) and none of that punching and kicking business!
Before he was born, we had prayed for years for... for what? My parents wanted another girl. I wanted a brother. Fortunately for me, God answered MY prayer (and not my parents')... *ahem!* But my parents would never trade Stephen for anyone else and now probably glad that God didn't give them what they asked for. Anyway, God's plan is always the best, even if you don't see why. After all, it's so much more fun with a little guy around the house. A slight problem nowadays is that he's always so full of energy when my parents and I are burned out by work and Cornell. Oh well.
I can do anything I like when I'm around him. I can be silly and crazy without seeming so because he'll do it right along with me. It doesn't matter if I just woke up and my hair is a mess. I can cry and he'll be right there to give me a tissue and a hug... and the next moment he'll comment that I'm getting "diamond eyes". (Oh yeah, there's also this thing called "square eyes" which is when you watch too much TV.) Maybe he's one of the reasons why I've retained parts of my childhood such as playing with stuffed animals and making them talk. (I know, shouldn't I be too grown up for that?) We can watch Mulan seven times in two days without getting tired of it and make up our own games to play like bouncing Donkey and Pengi on a balloon and seeing if we can score on each other's faces... (don't ask because it's hard to explain). Just thinking about my brother is making me homesick...
He's up to my nose now in height
or somewhere about there and getting taller. One day he'll be taller
than me... he can't wait. He's also a brilliant pianist, hard to
beat at N64, and gives the *squeeziest* little bear hugs ever (which one
time nearly broke my ribs or felt like it.) There is no doubt about
it... God has blessed me richly.
MY
BEST FRIEND IN THE UNIVERSE
*****
What can I say about my best
friend in the entire universe? Well, he's with me wherever I go and
much like my brother, I can tell him anything at all and more. All
the good things and the bad things, when I'm happy and when I'm sad.
He's always there to hold me, to guide me, and to love me no matter what
I've done or how terrible I've been.
He knows everything about me even before I tell him and yet he doesn't love me any less. There is no other friend like him. No one can love me like he does. He carries me through the worst times of my life and stays by my side when I feel lonely. He loved me so much that he died in my stead and took the punishment which should have been mine upon himself.
He never gets tired of listening to me and always gives me his full attention. He teaches me about a lot of things like trust, patience, and love. Most of the times, the lessons are difficult to learn. Sometimes I don't feel like trusting him for everything, I don't want to be patient any longer, I don't know how to show love.
He shows me his love for me everyday even when I don't see it all the time. I forget he's there sometimes but he never forgets me. He comforts me and shows compassion, he encourages me and puts a smile on my face that's much too hard to wipe off (not that I ever want to). I've had quite a number of those experiences... boy, do those cheeks start hurting after being stuck in an eternal *grin*. He quiets my thoughts in the middle of chaos and gives me peace inside.
There's no one like him at all... my friend, Jesus.
