·         Jesus knew His death was coming. After that time, fasting would be in order.

 

Lk 5:34  耶穌對他們說、新郎和陪伴之人同在的時候、豈能叫陪伴之人禁食呢。

Lk 5:35  但日子將到、新郎要離開他們、那日他們就要禁食了。

 

Mt 9:15  耶穌對他們說、新郎和陪伴之人同在的時候、陪伴之人豈能哀慟呢．但日子將到、新郎要離開他們、那時候他們就要禁食。

不隨從世界

New Cloth on an Old Garment Matt 9:16; Mk 2:21; Lk 5:36

New Wine in Old Wineskins Matt 9:17; Mk 2:22; Lk 5:37,38: Righteousness by faith is independent of the Law of Moses

Wineskins were goatskins sewed together at the edges to form watertight bags. Because new wine expands as it ages, it had to be put in new, pliable wineskins. A used skin, having become more rigid, would burst and spill the wine.

·         Pharisees were too rigid to accept Jesus who could not be contained in their traditions or rules. Christianity required new approaches, new tradition, new structures.

·         We need to keep our hearts pliable so we can accept Jesus’ life-changing message.

·         We can learn from the example to stay distinct from the world. If our value system is a mixture of God’s values and worldly values, it will collapse or will be taken over by secular values.

 

Lk 5:36  耶穌又設一個比喻、對他們說、沒有人把新衣服撕下一塊來、補在舊衣服上．若是這樣、就把新的撕破了、並且所撕下來的那塊新的、和舊的也不相稱。

Lk 5:37  也沒有人把新酒裝在舊皮袋裏．若是這樣、新酒必將皮袋裂開、酒便漏出來、皮袋也就壞了。

Lk 5:38  但新酒必須裝在新皮袋裏。

Lk 5:39  沒有人喝了陳酒又想喝新的、他總說陳的好。

 

Mt 9:16  沒有人把新布補在舊衣服上．因為所補上的、反帶壞了那衣服、破的就更大了。

Mt 9:17  也沒有人把新酒裝在舊皮袋裏．若是這樣、皮袋就裂開、酒漏出來、連皮袋也壞了．惟獨把新酒裝在新皮袋裏、兩樣就都保全了。

 

Mk 2:21  沒有人把新布縫在舊衣服上．恐怕所補上的新布、帶壞了舊衣服、破的就更大了。

Mk 2:22  也沒有人把新酒裝在舊皮袋裏．恐怕酒把皮袋裂開、酒和皮袋就都壞了．惟把新酒裝在新皮袋裏。

Follow the right teaching

The Pharisees did not agree with Jesus (Mt 15:12) but Jesus described them as blind teachers.

·         Make sure you are following the right teachers and leaders, because you will go no farther than they do. Look for leaders who will show you more about faith and whose guidance you can trust

 

Lk 6:39  耶穌又用比喻對他們說、瞎子豈能領瞎子、兩個人不是都要掉在坑裏麼。

 

Mt 15:14  任憑他們罷．他們是瞎眼領路的．若是瞎子領瞎子、兩個人都要掉在坑裏。

自我檢討

Reflect on our own weaknesses before criticizing others

·         Yet, we should not be so afraid of the label “hypocrite” that we do not progress in our Christian life, hiding our faith and making no attempts to grow. A person who tries to do right but often fails is not a hypocrite. Neither are those who fulfil their duty even when they don’t feel like doing it. It is not hypocrisy to be weak in faith.

·         A hypocrite is a person who puts on religious behaviour in order to gain attention, approval, acceptance, or admiration from others.

 

Lk 6:41  為甚麼看見你弟兄眼中有刺、卻不想自己眼中有梁木呢。

Lk 6:42  你不見自己眼中有梁木．怎能對你弟兄說、容我去掉你眼中的刺呢．你這假冒為善的人、先去掉自己眼中的梁木、然後纔能看得清楚、去掉你弟兄眼中的刺。

 

Mt 7:3  為甚麼看見你弟兄眼中有刺、卻不想自己眼中有梁木呢。

Mt 7:4  你自己眼中有梁木、怎能對你弟兄說、容我去掉你眼中的刺呢。

Mt 7:5  你這假冒為善的人、先去掉自己眼中的梁木、然後纔能看得清楚、去掉你弟兄眼中的刺。

Genuine faith is shown by fruitfulness

·         Jesus reminds us that our speech and actions reveal the true underlying beliefs, attitudes, and motivations. The good impressions we try to make cannot last if our hearts are deceptive.

·         The passage in Matthew refers specifically to teachers. The bad trees are those who deliberately teach false doctrine. Good teachers consistently exhibit good behaviour and high moral character as they attempt to live out the truths of Scripture.

 

Lk 6:43  因為沒有好樹結壞果子．也沒有壞樹結好果子。

Lk 6:44  凡樹木看果子、就可以認出他來。人不是從荊棘上摘無花果、也不是從蒺蔾裏摘葡萄。

Lk 6:45  善人從他心裏所存的善、就發出善來．惡人從他心裏所存的惡、就發出惡來．因為心裏所充滿的、口裏就說出來。

 

Mt 7:16  憑着他們的果子、就可以認出他們來。荊棘上豈能摘葡萄呢．蒺藜裏豈能摘無花果呢。

Mt 7:17  這樣、凡好樹都結好果子、惟獨壞樹結壞果子。

Mt 7:18  好樹不能結壞果子、壞樹不能結好果子。

Mt 7:19  凡不結好果子的樹、就砍下來、丟在火裏。

Mt 7:20  所以憑着他們的果子、就可以認出他們來。

A Wise Man’s Foundation Matt 7:24-27; Lk 6:47-49: Obedience to the word of God provides a strong foundation for salvation

·         Obeying God is like building a house on a strong, solid foundation that stands firm when storms come. When life is calm, our foundation doesn’t seem to matter. But when crises come, our foundations are tested. Be sure your life is built on the solid foundation of knowing and trusting Jesus Christ.

·         Those who build without a foundation perhaps try to save time and avoid the hard work of preparing a stone foundation. Without effort in building a strong spiritual life, a Christian will fall when facing difficulties.

 

Lk 6:47  凡到我這裏來、聽見我的話就去行的、我要告訴你們他像甚麼人、

Lk 6:48  他像一個人蓋房子、深深的挖地、把根基安在磐石上．到發大水的時候、水沖那房子、房子總不能搖動．因為根基立在磐石上。

Lk 6:49  惟有聽見不去行的、就像一個人在土地上蓋房子、沒有根基．水一沖、隨即倒塌了、並且那房子壞的很大。

 

Mt 7:24  所以凡聽見我這話就去行的、好比一個聰明人、把房子蓋在磐石上。

Mt 7:25  雨淋、水沖、風吹、撞着那房子、房子總不倒塌．因為根基立在磐石上。

Mt 7:26  凡聽見我這話不去行的、好比一個無知的人、把房子蓋在沙土上。

Mt 7:27  雨淋、水沖、風吹、撞着那房子、房子就倒塌了．並且倒塌得很大。

The gospel (evangelism) can be preached by different methods

·         The religious leaders hated anyone who spoke the truth and exposed their own hypocrisy, and they criticized without consistent standards.

 

Lk 7:31  主又說、這樣、我可用甚麼比這世代的人呢．他們好像甚麼呢。

Lk 7:32  好像孩童坐在街市上、彼此呼叫說、我們向你們吹笛、你們不跳舞、我們向你們舉哀、你們不啼哭。

Lk 7:33  施洗的約翰來、不喫餅、不喝酒．你們說他是被鬼附着的。

Lk 7:34  人子來、也喫也喝．你們說他是貪食好酒的人、是稅吏和罪人的朋友。

 

Mt 11:16  我可用甚麼比這世代呢．好像孩童坐在街市上、招呼同伴、說、

Mt 11:17  我們向你們吹笛、你們不跳舞．我們向你們舉哀、你們不捶胸。

Mt 11:18  約翰來了、也不喫、也不喝、人就說他是被鬼附着的。

Mt 11:19  人子來了、也喫、也喝、人又說他是貪食好酒的人、是稅吏和罪人的朋友．但智慧之子、總以智慧為是。

The Creditor and the Two Debtors Lk 7:41-43: Gratitude for forgiveness is proportionate to the recognition of one’s sinfulness.

·         Be grateful for God’s salvation when we reflect on how great a sinner we are.

 

Lk 7:41  耶穌說、一個債主、有兩個人欠他的債．一個欠五十兩銀子、一個欠五兩銀子．

Lk 7:42  因為他們無力償還、債主就開恩免了他們兩個人的債。這兩個人那一個更愛他呢。

The Sower Matt 13:3-23; Mk 4:2-20; Lk 8:4-15: Productivity within the kingdom depends on the kind of response to the Word one makes.

·         (1) fell along the path: faith attacked by the Devil撒在路旁的種子：被魔鬼攻擊

·         (2) fell among thorns: attacked by temptations撒在荊棘裏的種子：被試探攻擊

·         (3) fell on rocky places: attacked by sufferings撒在石頭地上的種子：被苦難攻擊

·         Defence: overcome the traps with God’s help抵抗：越過陷阱

 

Lk 8:5  有一個撒種的出去撒種．撒的時候、有落在路旁的、被人踐踏、天上的飛鳥又來喫盡了。

Lk 8:6  有落在磐石上的、一出來就枯乾了、因為得不着滋潤。

Lk 8:7  有落在荊棘裏的、荊棘一同生長、把它擠住了。

Lk 8:8  又有落在好土裏的、生長起來、結實百倍。耶穌說了這些話、就大聲說、有耳可聽的、就應當聽。

Lk 8:9  門徒問耶穌說、這比喻是甚麼意思呢。

Lk 8:10  他說、  神國的奧秘、只叫你們知道．至於別人、就用比喻、叫他們看也看不見、聽也聽不明。

Lk 8:11  這比喻乃是這樣．種子就是  神的道。

Lk 8:12  那些在路旁的、就是人聽了道、隨後魔鬼來、從他們心裏．把道奪去、恐怕他們信了得救。

Lk 8:13  那些在磐石上的、就是人聽道、歡喜領受、但心中沒有根、不過暫時相信、及至遇見試煉就退後了。

Lk 8:14  那落在荊棘裏的、就是人聽了道、走開以後、被今生的思慮錢財宴樂擠住了、便結不出成熟的子粒來．

Lk 8:15  那落在好土裏的、就是人聽了道、持守在誠實善良的心裏、並且忍耐着結實。

 

Mk 4:3  你們聽阿．有一個撒種的．出去撒種。

Mk 4:14  撒種之人所撒的、就是道。

Mk 4:15  那撒在路旁的、就是人聽了道、撒但立刻來、把撒在他心裏的道奪了去。

Mk 4:16  那撒在石頭地上的、就是人聽了道、立刻歡喜領受．

Mk 4:17  但他心裏沒有根、不過是暫時的、及至為道遭了患難、或是受了逼迫、立刻就跌倒了。

Mk 4:18  還有那撒在荊棘裏的、就是人聽了道．

Mk 4:19  後來有世上的思慮、錢財的迷惑、和別樣的私慾、進來把道擠住了、就不能結實。

Mk 4:20  那撒在好地上的、就是人聽道、又領受、並且結實、有三十倍的、有六十倍的、有一百倍的。

Good Samaritan Lk 10:30-37: Christian love is to provide for the needs of others impartially

·         Our neighbour is anyone of any race, creed, or social background who is in need.

·         Love means acting to meet the person’s need.

·         Samaritans were a mixed race produced when Jews from the northern kingdom intermarried with other peoples after Israel’s exile. To this law expert, the person least likely to act correctly would be the Samaritan.

 

Lk 10:30  耶穌回答說、有一個人從耶路撒冷下耶利哥去、落在強盜手中、他們剝去他的衣裳、把他打個半死、就丟下他走了。

Lk 10:31  偶然有一個祭司、從這條路下來．看見他就從那邊過去了。

Lk 10:32  又有一個利未人、來到這地方、看見他、也照樣從那邊過去了。

Lk 10:33  惟有一個撒瑪利亞人、行路來到那裏．看見他就動了慈心、

Lk 10:34  上前用油和酒倒在他的傷處、包裹好了、扶他騎上自己的牲口、帶到店裏去照應他。

Lk 10:35  第二天拿出二錢銀子來、交給店主說、你且照應他．此外所費用的、我回來必還你。

Lk 10:36  你想這三個人、那一個是落在強盜手中的鄰舍呢。

Lk 10:37  他說、是憐憫他的。耶穌說、你去照樣行罷。

Friend at midnight Lk 11:5-13: If a neighbor will certainly help in time of need rather than bring shame on himself, how much more will God meet the needs of those who ask

·         Persistence, or boldness, in prayer overcomes our insensitivity, not God’s. It helps us understand and express the intensity of our need.

 

Lk 11:5  耶穌又說、你們中間誰有一個朋友、半夜到他那裏去說、朋友、請借給我三個餅．

Lk 11:6  因為我有一個朋友行路、來到我這裏、我沒有甚麼給他擺上。

Lk 11:7  那人在裏面回答說、不要攪擾我．門已經關閉、孩子們也同我在床上了．我不能起來給你。

Lk 11:8  我告訴你們、雖不因他是朋友起來給他、但因他情詞迫切的直求、就必起來照他所需用的給他。

·         The love of a father is a weak demonstration of God’s love.

 

Lk 11:9  我又告訴你們、你們祈求就給你們．尋找就尋見．叩門就給你們開門。

Lk 11:11  你們中間作父親的、誰有兒子求餅、反給他石頭呢．求魚、反拿蛇當魚給他呢．

Lk 11:12  求雞蛋、反給他蠍子呢。

Lk 11:13  你們雖然不好、尚且知道拿好東西給兒女。何況天父、豈不更將聖靈給求他的人麼。

 

Mt 7:9  你們中間、誰有兒子求餅、反給他石頭呢．

Mt 7:11  你們雖然不好、尚且知道拿好東西給兒女、何況你們在天上的父、豈不更把好東西給求他的人麼。

God’s power can conquer the power of darkness

OR The kingdom must be kept in unity

·         Satan, who had controlled the kingdom of this world for thousands of years, was now being controlled and overpowered by Jesus and the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God began to come into power at Jesus’ birth, grew as He resisted the desert temptations, established itself through His teachings and healings, blossomed in victory at His resurrection and at Pentecost, and will become permanent and universal at His second coming.

 

Lk 11:17  他曉得他們的意念、便對他們說、凡一國自相分爭、就成為荒場．凡一家自相分爭、就必敗落。

Lk 11:18  若撒但自相分爭、他的國怎能站得住呢．因為你們說我是靠着別西卜趕鬼。

 

Mt 12:25  耶穌知道他們的意念、就對他們說、凡一國自相分爭、就成為荒場、一城一家自相分爭、必站立不住。

Mt 12:26  若撒但趕逐撒但、就是自相分爭、他的國怎能站得住呢。

God’s kingdom can conquer darkness by power

·         Jesus may have been referring to Isa 49:24-26. Regardless of how great Satan’s power is, Jesus is stronger still. He will bind Satan and dispose of him for eternity.

 

Lk 11:21  壯士披掛整齊、看守自己的住宅、他所有的都平安無事．

Lk 11:22  但有一個比他更壯的來、勝過他、就奪去他所倚靠的盔甲兵器、又分了他的贓。

Lk 11:23  不與我相合的、就是敵我的．不同我收聚的、就是分散的。

 

Mt 12:29  人怎能進壯士家裏、搶奪他的家具呢、除非先捆住那壯士、纔可以搶奪他的家財。

 

Mk 3:27  沒有人能進壯士家裏、搶奪他的家具．必先捆住那壯士、纔可以搶奪他的家。

Repentance must be followed by faith and the Holy Spirit

·         Jesus was illustrating an unfortunate human tendency—our desire to reform often does not last long [Chinese idiom: five minutes heat]. It is not enough to be emptied of evil; we must then be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to walk in God’s path. Unfilled and complacent people are easy targets for Satan.

 

Lk 11:24  污鬼離了人身、就在無水之地、過來過去、尋求安歇之處．既尋不着、便說、我要回到我所出來的屋裏去。

Lk 11:25  到了、就看見裏面打掃乾淨、修飾好了．

Lk 11:26  便去另帶了七個比自己更惡的鬼來、都進去住在那裏．那人末後的景況、比先前更不好了。

·         The lamp is Christ. Can you hide a city that is sitting on top of a hill? Its light can be seen for miles. If we live for Christ, we will glow like lights, showing others what Christ is like. We hide our light by: [a] being quiet when we should speak, [b] going along with the crowd, [c] denying the light, [d] letting sin dim our light, [e] not explaining our light to others, or [f] ignoring the needs of others. Don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world.

 

Lk 8:16  沒有人點燈用器皿蓋上、或放在床底下、乃是放在燈臺上、叫進來的人看見亮光。

Lk 8:17  因為掩藏的事、沒有不顯出來的．隱瞞的事、沒有不露出來被人知道的。

Lk 11:33  沒有人點燈放在地窨子裏、或是斗底下、總是放在燈臺上、使進來的人得見亮光。

明白神的話

Faith needs to be illuminated by understanding

·         The lamp is Christ; the eye represents spiritual understanding and insight. Evil desires make the eye less sensitive and blot out the light of Christ’s presence.

 

Lk 11:34  你眼睛就是身上的燈、你的眼睛若瞭亮、全身就光明．眼睛若昏花、全身就黑暗。

Lk 11:35  所以你要省察、恐怕你裏頭的光、或者黑暗了。

Lk 11:36  若是你全身光明、毫無黑暗、就必全然光明、如同燈的明光照亮你。

 

Mt 6:22  眼睛就是身上的燈．你的眼睛若瞭亮、全身就光明。

Mt 6:23  你的眼睛若昏花、全身就黑暗．你裏頭的光若黑暗了、那黑暗是何等大呢。

The Rich Fool Lk 12:16-21: The faith that saves is one that looks to eternal rewards rather than earthly material things

·         Planning for retirement—preapring for life before death—is wise, but neglecting life after death is disastrous. If you accumulate your wealth only to enrich yourself, with no concern for helping others, you will enter eternity empty-handed.

·         Store up your treasure in heaven by helping those in need (Mt 19:21; Mk 10:21; Lk 12:32; 18:22).

 

Lk 12:16  就用比喻對他們說、有一個財主、田產豐盛．

Lk 12:17  自己心裏思想說、我的出產沒有地方收藏、怎麼辦呢。

Lk 12:18  又說、我要這麼辦．要把我的倉房拆了、另蓋更大的．在那裏好收藏我一切的糧食和財物。

Lk 12:19  然後要對我的靈魂說、靈魂哪、你有許多財物積存、可作多年的費用．只管安安逸逸的喫喝快樂罷。

Lk 12:20    神卻對他說、無知的人哪、今夜必要你的靈魂．你所預備的、要歸誰呢。

Lk 12:21  凡為自己積財、在  神面前卻不富足的、也是這樣。

儆醒等候

The Faithful and Wise Servant Lk 12:35-40: The faith that saves is one that looks to the return of the master

·         People who are ready for their Lord’s return are:

o       [a] not hypocritical but sincere (Lk 12:1);

o       [b] not fearful but ready to witness (Lk 12:4-9);

o       [c] not worried but trusting (Lk 12:25-26);

o       [d] not greedy but generous (Lk 12:34);

o       [e] not lazy but diligent (Lk 12:37).

·         May your life be more like Christ’s so that when He comes, you will be ready to greet Him joyfully.

 

Lk 12:35  你們腰裏要束上帶、燈也要點着．

Lk 12:36  自己好像僕人等候主人、從婚姻的筵席上回來．他來到叩門、就立刻給他開門。

Lk 12:37  主人來了、看見僕人儆醒、那僕人就有福了．我實在告訴你們、主人必叫他們坐席、自己束上帶、進前伺候他們。

Lk 12:38  或是二更天來、或是三更天來、看見僕人這樣、那僕人就有福了。

Lk 12:39  家主若知道賊甚麼時候來、就必儆醒、不容賊挖透房屋、這是你們所知道的。

Lk 12:40  你們也要預備．因為你們想不到的時候、人子就來了。

儆醒等候

Wise and Wicked Servants Matt 24:45-51; Lk 12:42-48: All true followers of Jesus will watch and be ready for His return.

Watchful Porter Mk 13:33-37: True followers of Jesus will watch and be ready for His return.

·         Watchful and faithful servants of God will be blessed.

·         Mk 13 tells us how to live while we wait for Christ’s return:

o       [a] We are not to be midled by confusing claims and speculative interpretations of what will happen (v.5-6).

o       [b] We should not be afraid to tell people about Christ, despite what they might say or do to us (v.9-11).

o       [c] We must stand firm by faith and not be surprised by persecutions (v.13).

o       [d] We must be morally alert, obedient to the commands for living found in God’s Word.

 

Lk 12:42  主說、誰是那忠心有見識的管家、主人派他管理家裏的人、按時分糧給他們呢。

Lk 12:43  主人來到、看見僕人這樣行、那僕人就有福了。

Lk 12:44  我實在告訴你們、主人要派他管理一切所有的。

Lk 12:45  那僕人若心裏說、我的主人必來得遲．就動手打僕人和使女、並且喫喝醉酒．

Lk 12:46  在他想不到的日子、不知道的時辰、那僕人的主人要來、重重的處治他、定他和不忠心的人同罪。

Lk 12:47  僕人知道主人的意思、卻不預備、又不順他的意思行、那僕人必多受責打．

Lk 12:48  惟有那不知道的、作了當受責打的事、必少受責打．因為多給誰、就向誰多取．多託誰、就向誰多要。

 

Mt 24:45  誰是忠心有見識的僕人、為主人所派、管理家裏的人、按時分糧給他們呢。

Mt 24:46  主人來到、看見他這樣行、那僕人就有福了。

Mt 24:47  我實在告訴你們、主人要派他管理一切所有的。

Mt 24:48  倘若那惡僕心裏說、我的主人必來得遲、

Mt 24:49  就動手打他的同伴、又和酒醉的人一同喫喝．

Mt 24:50  在想不到的日子、不知道的時辰、那僕人的主人要來、

Mt 24:51  重重的處治他、定他和假冒為善的人同罪．在那裏必要哀哭切齒了。

 

Mk 13:34  這事正如一個人離開本家、寄居外邦、把權柄交給僕人、分派各人當作的工、又吩咐看門的儆醒。

Mk 13:35  所以你們要儆醒、因為你們不知道家主甚麼時候來、或晚上、或半夜、或雞叫、或早晨。

Mk 13:36  恐怕他忽然來到、看見你們睡着了。
